Analogrechner Do 80 / Analog Computer Do 80

Analogrechner Do 80 - DomierSysiem GmbH ~ Analog Computer Do 80 1. 1. General The DORNIER 80 is a very compact 10 V desktop analog computer. Low weight and small dimensions (19” standard casing) make it a transportable desktop computer. The computer is stackable with other 19” equipment. The patch panel layout corresponds to that of bigger computers; the possibilities for flexible wiring of the computing elements are similar. The DO 80 differs from common instructional computers in so far as it permits advanced training and lead-over to large computers. The exchangeable patch panel was dispensed with for reasons of cost. Such panels are indeed not customary with computers of this price class. 2. Computer Set-Up The four potentiometer modules are located above the patch panel. Each module contains the pertinent patch panel segment. On the right-hand side is located the control module with the indicator and control panel. External operation of the control module is possible via adapter cables for the purpose of maintenance and repair. On the rear are located the connectors for parallel operation of two computers, control signal terminations (e. g. for connection and control of recording equip- ment) and the mains supply. The termination of the internal supply lines are also located on the rear. 3. Description of Control and Indicator Elements The individual control and indicatirtg elements have the following functions (see illustrations on left-hand page) 1) Balancing potentiometer for + 10 V reference vol- tage 2) Balancing potentiometer for — 10 V reference vol- tage 3) Lamp pane! to indicate the state of the maximally four comparators 4) Overload indicator panel. Overload of the ampli- fiers housed in the module is indicated by one lamp per module. A failure of one of the two reference voltages is indicated simultaneously. 5) Analog voltmeter with three switchable measure- ment ranges 6) UHT (overload hold) switch. If the switch is thrown, the hold mode is automatically set in case of an overload. 7) Analog voltmeter inputs 8) Twelve-Position selector switch for analog volt- meter. The following can be measured by means of this switch: @ the supply voltages +REF, —REF, +15 V, -15V,+12V,+5V @ the voltage applied on the green socket (7), referred to signal ground, with the following measurement ranges + 1 15 V full scale +10: 1,5 V full scale ABGL : approx. 150 mV full scale 9) Mains switch with indicator lamp 10) Setting potentiometers for the computing time in the RR (repetitive operation) and 1 x (compute 1 x) modes. The product from potentiometer setting and position of switch 11 yields the compute time, thus the time during which the computer is in the computing state during ,,repetitive computation”. DORNIER . Elektronikprodukte/Electronic Products 11) Wahlschalter für Grobeinstellung der Rechenzeit. Mit Hilfe des Einstellpotentiometers 10 und des Schalters 11 kann die Rechenzeit gemäß folgender Tabelle variiert werden: 11) Selector switch for rough setting of compute time The compute time may be varied by the setting potentiometer 10 and the switch 11 according to the below table: Stellung Pausenzeit Rechenzeit Position IC time Compute Schalter 11 tp switch 11 tp time 0.1 sec 0.1 sec 0.1./. 1.1sec 0.1 sec 0.1 sec 0.1./. 1.1sec 1 sec 0.1 sec 1 /. 11 sec 1 sec 0.1 sec 1 /. 11 sec 1 sec 1 sec 1 /. 11 sec 1 sec 1 sec 1 J. 11 sec 10 sec 1 sec 10 /.110 sec 10 sec 1 sec 10 ./.110 sec 12) Einstellpotentiometer für Pausenzeit. The IC time tp indicated in 11 applies when the potentiometer 12 is set to its max. position in counter clockwise direc- tion. It may be increased from this value via the multi-turn potentiometer. IC and compute time are decreased via button 21 to atenth ofthe values set. A settable IC time, realized by the potentiometer, may be especially profitable in case ofan operation of complementary integrators. 13) REMOTE control switch. By setting this switch atl DO 80 may be operated as a slave to another DORNIER computer. The timer of a slave computer remains separately functional and may be set as usual via the buttons 15 to 21. A further independent clock is thus available. 14) REMOTE control indicator. This lamp illuminates if a DORNIER 80 is operated as a slave computer. 15) AB button. By pressing this button the computer is set to the IC mode (initial condition) during which all normally controlled integrators build up their initial conditions. The DR (operate) and HT (hold) buses in the lower part of an integrator module are switched to relay ground via transistors, depending on the mode. The individual modules are decoupled via diodes. The following is valid for the buses in the IC mode: DR transistor cut off HT = transistor conducting (relay ground) e° 17) 18) 19 HT-Taste. 16) HT button. By pressing this button the HT (hold) mode is selected during which all integrators stop computing, their instantaneous output voltages being maintained. Computing from the HD mode may be continued by pressing the DR (17) button. DR = transistor conducting (relay ground) HT = transistor conducting (relay ground) 17)DR button. This button selects the „computing” state, i. e. a computation is started. The further se- quence depends on the mode pre-selection via the push-buttons 18 and 19. If neither the 1 x button is pressed nor the RR button, the computer goes to the operate mode. In this mode the timer produces a repetitive ramp, increasing during compute time from -10 V to +10 V, the IC and compute times of which are seton 10, 11 and 12. Thisramp is available on the rear of the computer, e. g. for external time deflection of recording equipment. DR = transistor conducting (relay ground) HT 4 transistor cut off 18) ,,1 x” button. If the 1 x button is manipulated and the DR button (button 17) pressed afterwards, the com- puter remains in the computing state for a period which corresponds to that set on potentiometer 10 and switch 11. Thereafter, the computer goes back to the IC mode. In this case also, the timer produces one single ramp-increasing from —10 V to +10 V during computation - which, during IC time, decrea- ses linearly to —10 V. 19) RR button. The ,,repetitive operation” mode may be pre-selected by this button and set after pressing DR (button 17). The compute and initial condition modes are passed cyclically in the IC and compute times set on 10, 11 and 12. These times may be reduced to a tenth of the values set by pressing button 21. The timer produces always a repetitive ramp, increasing from -10 V to +10 V during the respective computation. If the AB button is pressed, the computer goes back to the IC mode. DORNIER . 20) mHT (with HOLD) button. If this button is pressec notthelC modeis selected after the endofacompu- — ting process (both in the RR and in the 1 x mode) but HD. The following difference exists: During RR „with HOLD” and DR ,with HOLD”, the timer output (ramp) is also stopped at +10 V. This may be of ser- vice if a XY plotter is used. Although in the 1 x mode with HOLD the computation is also stopped and the instantaneous values maintained, the ramp goes back tp —10 V. By pressing the DR button again, the computation may be continued by a defined inter- val. A stepwise computation is thus possible. 21) T/10 button. This button effects an acceleration of the entire computing process ky a factor of 10, and this irrespective of the time constants selected for the individual integrators on the patch panel. Simul- taneously, the timer is accelerated by ten times. 22) Function switch. These keys are used as function switches freely programmable on the patch panel. Each of them supplies one logic output signal with TTL level, rigidly wired with a relay. It is only when the additional relay driver input on the patch panel is supplied from another source that the buttons deliver only their logic output without energizing the relay. If several switches are to be pressed at the same time, itis possible to push one of these buttons down and maintain it in this position while manipu- lating the others for a short time and then release the first button. The closing of the button’s normally closed contact effects also a variation of the other switch positions. Auf der Rückseite des Gerätes befinden sich folgende nschlüsse: 23) Buchsenfeld oe Es bedeuten: HT, DR HTZ, DRZ KRZ The following terminations are located on the com- puter’s rear. Module with one death time delay generator This module simulates the transfer function F(s) = es! It comprises of an analog-to-digital converter, a shift register (length = 100) and a digital-to-analog converter. The generator operates either on an external clock pulse or on an internal clock pulse, generated by a voltage controlled oscillator. The oscillator frequency is accelerated by a factor of 10, if the T/10 button is pres- sed. The oscillator input voltages varies the frequentcy over the range from 10 ms to 10. The death time delay generator has an individual mode control. Normally, the oscillator ist stopped and the shift register is cleared if the computer goes to AB mode (initial condition). Module with two variable function generators. The module contains two function generators with fixed break points. The adjusting potentiometers are set from the patch panel. The break points of the first function generator are fixed at+1 V, #3V, #5 V, +7 Vand=+9 V, those of the second generator at +2 V, +4 V, +6 V, and + 8 V. The second generator can be slaved to the first thus enabling the simulation of more complicated func- tions with a 1 Volt-distance between two break points. The module contains an additional fixed function gene- rator for simulating a signum function or a backlash. Logic modules All logic components operate with TTL signals. They are protected at their outputs against shortage and back voltages. 18 Module with five AND/NAND gates Me The modules have two inputs, a true and a false output. The outputs of two gates may be connected for wired AND operation. Module with three flipflops and one monoflop The flipflops are designed as RS-flipflops with a clock input. True and false outputs are terminated at the patch panel. Flipflop status is indicated via LED’s. The pulse duration of the monoflop is adjustable from 10 us to 1 ms. The maximum time can be extended to 5 s by means of an external capacitor. The flipflop module has an individual mode control. Normally, the flipflops are cleared if the computer goes to AB mode (initial condition). Module with two counters and one timer The timer outputs are 1 Hz, 10 Hz, 100 Hz, and 1 kHz. The frequency is accelerated by a factor of 10, if the T/10 button is pressed. wu The counters are designed as 4 bit binary counters. The counter contents is indicated by a LED register. A decimal coding of the countersis achieved by a respec- tive wiring at the patch panel. Both counters can be combined to one 8 bit counter. Counters and timer have an individual mode control. Normally, the timer is stopped and the counters are cleared, if the computer goes to AB mode (initial con- dition). 5. Programmierbeispiele 5.
