EAI 38O
AnaloglHVbridScientificComputerSystem
The EAI 380 Analog/HybridComputeris
a 10-volt,desk-top,low-costcomputerhaving sophisticatedfeaturespreviouslyavailable only in much higher-pricedsystems,
It is the smallestand most economical
machinewith hybrid capabilitiesin the EAI
family of analog/hybridsystems. The 380
fills a need in education, researchand industryfor a low-costcomputerable to demonstrateand perform modern hybrid techniques.
In its basic analog configurationof 10
computing amplifiers, the 380 is ideally
suited to undergraduateinstruction. lt is
easily and economicallyexpandableto 54
amplifiers within the same main frame
throughthe use of pre-wiringand convenient plug-in modules.
Control logic may be added directly to
the computer,thus facilitatinginstruction.
A data interfacewill be available for directly linking the EAI 380 to a digital computer for total hybrid operation.
In addition to its easy and economical
expandability,
additionalversatilityand f lexibilityhavebeen designedinto the new 380.
Many of the field provencomponentsof the
larger 10V family of computersare utilized
in the 380. Not only does this mean that a
high confidencelevelof reliabilityhas been
built into the new computer (over 2000 sophisticatedEAI desk-top computers fieldtestedand in operationsince 1959),but also
that the 380 is compatibl ewith other 10-V
computersfor slaving in multi-consoleop-
erationand future growth. Furthermore,as
manyof thesecomponentsare interchangeable, additional economies are thus possible in multi-consoleinstallations.
Here are some of the sophisticatedfeatures now availablefor the first time in a
compact,low-costcomputer:
r Mode slaving system for multi-console
simulationsand compatibilitywith all existing EAI desktop computers.
I Electronicand logic mode control,with
provisionfor multi-modeproblemsolutiOns.
I No velocitylimitingwithin the bandwidth
of the amplifierspermittingrep-opsolutions
upto5,000 times real time.
f All non-linearfunction generatorsthat
are available in the larger computer line
(bipolar, quarter square multipliers,sine/
cosine,logarithmicf unctions).
t Variablediode function generatorswith
self containedinvertersand sloping amplifiers, and quick setupsystem.
r High speed electyonic comparators,
switches,and functionrelays.
r Self containeddigitalvoltmeter.
r Integrated-circuitplug-in logic system
expansionwith digitalclock.
I Sophisticatedintervaltimer with solution
rates from 1 millisecondto 9.9 seconds;
generationof logictime signal
simultaneous
and analogramp signal.
The EAI 38O Is The First Step
To The UnbeatableCompetitiveEdge
That AnaloglHVbridComputationGives
The EAI 380 Analog/Hybridcomputer is
an importantfirst step in gainingthe advantagesof modernhybridtechniques.
It is a logical first computer . . . and just
as logicalas a replacementwhen upgrading
a laboratoryor computationfacility.
Becauseof its unique expandability,the
380 is ideally suited to the instruction
neededtoday to gain proficiencyin the rapidly-increasing
applicationof hybrid computationaltechniques.
As the student's ability to comprehend
and handle more complex problems increases, the 380 can be readily expandedto
accommodategrowingneedswith the addition of controllogic.
A data interfacewill be availableso that
the new systemcan be linked with a digital
computerfor full hybrid power.
Perhapsthe mostimportantfact aboutthe
EAI 380 is the broad range of experience
that went into its design. During the last
decade,EAI has installedover 2000sophisticateddesk-topcomputers,as well as hundreds of large-scalesystemsin important
computationalfacilities around the world.
The team that first made hybrid computing
a practicalreality, designedthe largestnuclear system simulator, the most sophisticatedspacevehiclesimulationcomputers,
and a host of other advanced computer
technologysystems,designedand built the
EAI 380. All of this experienceis available
to EAl380users.
EAI support is continuing. . . start with
the installation. When you buy a 380 or any
one of our desk-topanalog/hybridcomputers-an EAI serviceengineerwill be calling
on you to see that everythingabout your system is o.k. You get this installationcall free.
Part of the reasonwe do it is that there are
EAI service centers all over the United
States. But this isn't the most valuable of
our services. With each 380 you get two man
weeks of free instruction. The EAI Educa.
tion and Training group offers a great number of courses at many locations, and you
can choose the ones pinpointed to your
problems.
Our interestdoesn'tend there. Only EAI
gives you a continuallyupdated Applications ReferenceLibrary,a seriesof studies
that show analog and hybrid programming
routinesillustratingbothgeneraltechniques
and specific problem solutions. For example, we've recently introduced a new
Educator's DemonstrationSeries to help
busy professorsin coursepreparation.And
we keep you continuouslyinformed with
regular distributionsof technical information and literature.
For additionaltechnical back-up, we've
established convenient EAI Computation
Centers. EAI customers can call on the
most sophisticatedskills to solve simulation, design, optimization, data processing
problems.
and other scientific/engineering
Nobodyhas the experiencewe have in analog and hybrid computation. And no other
manufacturerof analog offers the extent of
continuingpost-deliverysupport.
We are adding the new 380 systemto our
DemonstrationVan Program. Demonstration is the bestway to appreciatethe speed,
economyand usefulresultsthat an analog/
hybrid computer can provide. Just name
the time and place-and type of application of interest. We'll set up a relateddemonstrationat your plant, office or lab. That
way you can get direct, hands-onexperience with an appropriatesimulationor data
reductionproblem. lf you would like to discuss your problem first and find out more
about the new 380 simply use the enclosed
replycard.
