Atomic Pile Simulator “DJINN”
From Laboratoires René Derveaux
Whether the problem concerns:
- Neutronics
- Kinetics
- Pile control
- Electronics
- Servo-mechanisms
- Control panels
All such problems are dealt with entirely by the “DJINN” Pile Simulator.
All your problems — Atomic Pile Control · Neutronics · Kinetics · Electronics · Servo-Mechanisms · Control Board — are entirely dealt with by Pile Simulator “DJINN”.
(The cover shows a large console-type analog computer on the upper left and a rack-mounted unit with display panel on the lower right. An illustration of a nuclear reactor building appears in the upper right.)

ANALOG CALCULATOR — “DJINN” TYPE 30 A5 P.
The “simulator de pile” (pile simulator) of the “DJINN” type, equipped with 30 DC amplifiers and 84 potentiometers, permits, after a six-month apprenticeship, the study, preparation, and monitoring of reactor procedures en conditions of simulation.
It solves:
- Problems of kinetics of piles by treating groups of 4 to 5 precursor families within the bounds of complexity required.
- Problems of poisoning calculation taking into account the effects of temperature.
- Problems of measurement-monitoring on a simulator.
Its special feature is that it gives the user, after a short apprenticeship, all the fundamentals of pile research.
Dynamic accuracy: 0.5 %
MODEL 30 A5 P — “DJINN” ANALOG COMPUTER
This “nuclear pile simulator” analog computer has been conceived with a particular point of special design for the study, preparation, and monitoring of reactor procedures under simulated conditions. It allows the user to solve: (1) Pile kinetics problems treating 4 to 5 groups of precursor families; (2) Poisoning, in particular the research for xenon reactivity; (3) Measurement and control problems.
A special feature of the “DJINN” calculator is its “Similarity Control” function, which continuously checks the correct simulator operation.
Dynamic accuracy: 0.5 %
MEASURING UNIT D.O.S.I. — D.O.S.I. MEASURING CABINET
Designed to accompany the “DJINN” computer, the measuring cabinet:
(1) A set of control circuits which enable the testing of the calibrating and trapping of the computer with an accuracy of 0.5 %. (2) Various instruments: Cathode Ray Oscillograph for display showing on an appropriate scale the simulated function; MPRS type recorder (e.g., Sefram or Honeywell), for the recording of the parameters.
DIGITAL GAMMASCOPE — TYPE 60 C.
- Sensitivity: adjustable
- Reading: in calibrated quantities
All applications with neutron or radiation density detectors, from low to ultra-high fluxes, this device serves within the domain of pile study particularly.
DIGITAL SAMAFLOC TYPE 4
- Compact counter
- Quantified detector compatible
Available: 6 ranges — 6 significant figures (Details in Samafloc-specific documentation)
